Unlike most businesses focused on profit, Tri-County Electric Co-op (TCEC) is a not-for-profit organization. This means they don’t earn profit. Instead, their funds come from banks and members. This money is then used in their annual budget and eventually returned to members over a 23-year period. Did you know co-ops are governed by their members? They exist to serve and are democratically controlled by those they serve.
Luke Johnson, the CEO of TCEC and one of Jefferson County CEO’s board members, began his journey as a lineman apprentice and rose to his position through dedication and persistence.
“Always be a forward thinker,” he advises. As aspiring entrepreneurs, we shouldn’t just think day-to-day. We should instead look ahead, seize future opportunities, and push through challenges with thick skin.
